On April 12th, 1910, the Premier Gem stove rolled out of the foundry with a shine like starlight and the promise of modernity humming in its cast-iron bones. It was a marvel of the new century—sleek, efficient, and proudly American—delivered to a farmhouse on the edge of Kansas wheat fields where it was met with wide eyes and grateful hands. For the Matthison family, it turned cold breakfasts into warm gatherings and gave a reliable glow during the darkest Dust Bowl nights to come. As Halley’s Comet lit the sky that same year, young Clara Matthison made a wish by the stove’s gentle flicker, dreaming of a life beyond the prairie. She would eventually chase that dream to Chicago, but the Premier Gem remained behind, quietly burning through seasons and stories, its warmth a steady witness to the passage of time.
