Ginger - Triple Effect Gas Stove
Meet Ginger
1895 Estate Triple Effect

Price: $4,500

1895 Estate Triple Effect Gas Heater – “Ginger” Serial No. 112 | Custom orange porcelain enamel over nickel, fully restored

Born in the Grand Rapids Stove Company’s 1895 catalog, this rare Triple Effect parlor heater boasts factory-original triple-flue efficiency wrapped in a one-of-a-kind tangerine porcelain finish. The vivid color pops against matte black iron, with swirling Art Nouveau filigree framing a glowing mica firebox that radiates 28,000 BTU into rooms up to 1,000 sq ft.

Converted for safe modern natural gas use and once the centerpiece of a Gold Coast speakeasy, it now awaits its next chapter.

One stove. One bold hue. Zero chills.

Backstory

Ginger O’Malley, a red-haired vaudeville dancer with legs insured for $10,000, bought the Estate Triple Effect in 1923 after spotting its orange porcelain in a Detroit prop warehouse. “Matches my hair and my temper,” she laughed, shipping it to her speakeasy dressing room above the Chez Paree in Chicago.

Every night after the 2 a.m. show, Ginger kicked off her heels, cracked the gas valve, and let the tangerine stove light her cigarette while she counted tips on the filigreed shelf. Patrons swore the flames burned brighter when she hummed “Ain’t We Got Fun.”

When Prohibition ended, Ginger retired to a Florida bungalow, taking the stove on the train in a steamer trunk labeled FRAGILE—GENIUS AT WORK. It warmed her porch through hurricanes and heartbreaks until 1978.

Now, 130 years after its forge-birth, the stove—still called Ginger—sits in Manhattan Kansas, glowing like a sunset. Light it at happy hour and the orange enamel catches the light just like her hair once did.
